Winter and cold weather are upon us!
Are you ready for it!
As you know, temperatures below thirty two causes water to freeze.
So remove those garden hoses from the outside faucet turn off the water to them and drain the lines.
Get a carbon monoxide detector!
Digital is best.
install as per the instructions that come with it.
Have your heating system serviced
Or at least replace take a look around your heating system if you see water stains rusty pipes unsual sounds have them checked out. Replace your filters. Having your system serviced is recommended by all heating equiptment manufactures.
Many breakdowns are due to lack of maintenance.
Your equipment can be operating with a safety control that is not working.
Take a look at this safety relief valve I recently removed.
Completely blocked and unable to do its Job.
You may be asking what is a relief valve and what is its job?
A boiler, water heater or any enclosed vessel that heats water has a designed working pressure the pressure relief valve is installed in an opening to prevent the vessel from reaching pressures for the vessel was not designed.
In a home heating system, where water is heated and expands this causes pressure in the system to rise.
If those pressures are not controlled the relief valve is designed to prevent a dangerous situation.
Water heaters and steam boilers also have them and they serve the same function.
They need servicing as well.
For more information see the preseason heating service page on this website.
Thanks and have a safe winter.
Well if my picture to the left here is worth a 1000 words this video will leave you speechless. Its the boys from Myth Busters putting the water heater explosion myth to the test.
